Joshua Schwartz, MS, GISP
Abstract (Note: This presentation is from work while Mr. Schwartz was previously employed by Arizona Public Service Company): Guided by the Wildland Urban Interface Code, Arizona Public Service (APS) has undertaken an effort to clear defensible space around utility poles which house electrical equipment. APS has leveraged GIS and GIS technology in every step of the project – from prioritizing the lines to be inspected to planning the work and communicating the work to the contractors and finally through the audit process. A system that was once all paper based is now 100% electronic.
